After hoisting it up, they used ropes and tackle and girded the ship. Fearing they would run aground on the Syrtis, they lowered the sea-anchor, and in this way they were driven along.


We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.


Some sailors tried to escape from the ship; they had let down the skiff into the sea, pretending that they were going to put out anchors from the bow.


But we have to run aground on some island.’


In the morning you will say, “If only it were evening! ” and in the evening you will say, “If only it were morning! ” #– #because of the dread you will have in your heart and because of what you will see.


They took soundings and found it to be forty metres  deep; when they had sailed a little further and sounded again, they found it to be thirty metres  deep.
