‘Immediately after the distress   of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not shed its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.


We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.


At that time you were without Christ, excluded from the citizenship of Israel, and foreigners to the covenants of promise,  without hope  and without God in the world.


Then he said to me, ‘Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel.  Look how they say, “Our bones are dried up,  and our hope has perished;  we are cut off.”


Keep your feet from going bare and your throat from thirst. But you say, ‘It’s hopeless; I love strangers, and I will continue to follow them.’


You became weary on your many journeys, but you did not say, ‘It’s hopeless! ’ You found a renewal of your strength; therefore you did not grow weak.


Three times I was beaten with rods.  Once I received a stoning.  Three times I was shipwrecked.  I have spent a night and a day in the open sea.


But the Lord threw  a great wind onto the sea,  and such a great storm arose on the sea that the ship threatened to break apart.


On the third day, they threw the ship’s tackle overboard with their own hands.


Since they had been without food for a long time, Paul then stood up among them and said, ‘You men should have followed my advice not to sail from Crete and sustain this damage and loss.
