Agrippa said to Paul, ‘You have permission to speak for yourself.’ Then Paul stretched out his hand and began his defence:

But the Lord said to him, ‘Go, for this man is my chosen instrument   to take my name to Gentiles,   kings, and Israelites.


‘I consider myself fortunate that it is before you, King Agrippa, I am to make my defence today against all the accusations of the Jews,


‘Our law doesn’t judge a man before it hears from him and knows what he’s doing, does it? ’


Since I called out and you refused, extended my hand and no one paid attention,


But to Israel he says, All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and defiant people.   ,


I answered them that it is not the Roman custom to give someone up  before the accused faces the accusers and has an opportunity for a defence against the charges.


‘Brothers and fathers, listen now to my defence before you.’


The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.


The one who gives an answer before he listens – this is foolishness and disgrace for him.


‘ “Therefore, I stretched out my hand against you and reduced your provisions. I gave you over to the desire of those who hate you, the Philistine women,  who were embarrassed by your indecent conduct.


For it seems unreasonable to me to send a prisoner without indicating the charges against him.’
