Paul said, ‘I am a Jewish man from Tarsus of Cilicia,  a citizen of an important city. Now I ask you, let me speak to the people.’


But Abishai son of Zeruiah came to his aid, struck the Philistine, and killed him. Then David’s men swore to him, ‘You must never again go out with us to battle. You must not extinguish the lamp of Israel.’


But when some became hardened and would not believe, slandering the Way in front of the crowd, he withdrew from them, taking the disciples, and conducted discussions every day in the lecture hall of Tyrannus.


Even some of the provincial officials of Asia, who were his friends, sent word to him, pleading with him not to venture  into the amphitheatre.
