When David had gone a little beyond the summit,  Ziba, Mephibosheth’s servant,  was right there to meet him. He had a pair of saddled donkeys loaded with two hundred loaves of bread, one hundred clusters of raisins, one hundred bunches of summer fruit, and a clay jar of wine.

‘You will proceed from there until you come to the oak of Tabor.  Three men going up to God at Bethel  will meet you there, one bringing three goats, one bringing three loaves of bread, and one bringing a clay jar of wine.


How sad for me! For I am like one who – when the summer fruit has been gathered after the gleaning of the grape harvest   – finds no grape cluster to eat, no early fig, which I crave.


A person’s gift opens doors  for him and brings him before the great.


There were a thousand men from Benjamin with him. Ziba, an attendant from the house of Saul,  with his fifteen sons and twenty servants also rushed down to the Jordan ahead of the king.
