How the mighty have fallen and the weapons of war have perished!


How the mighty have fallen in the thick of battle! Jonathan lies slain on your heights.


The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned.


Next I took my staff called Favour and cut it in two, annulling the covenant I had made with all the peoples.


So I shepherded the flock intended for slaughter, the oppressed of the flock.  I took two staffs, calling one Favour  and the other Union, and I shepherded the flock.


How the Lord has overshadowed Daughter Zion with his anger! He has thrown down Israel’s glory from heaven to earth. He did not acknowledge his footstool in the day of his anger.


On that day the Branch  of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious,  and the fruit of the land  will be the pride and glory  of Israel’s survivors.


Saul and Jonathan, loved and delightful, they were not parted in life or in death. They were swifter than eagles, stronger than lions.


The next day when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his three sons dead on Mount Gilboa.


He grew up before him like a young plant and like a root out of dry ground. He didn’t have an impressive form or majesty that we should look at him, no appearance that we should desire him.
