Ahaziah’s downfall came from God when he went to Joram.  When Ahaziah arrived, he went out with Joram to meet Jehu son of Nimshi,  whom the Lord had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab.


Then take the flask of oil, pour it on his head, and say, “This is what the Lord says: ‘I anoint you king over Israel.’ ”  Open the door and escape. Don’t wait.’


You are to anoint Jehu  son of Nimshi as king over Israel and Elisha  son of Shaphat from Abel-meholah as prophet in your place.


You will be driven away from people to live with the wild animals, and you will feed on grass like cattle for seven periods of time, until you acknowledge that the Most High is ruler over human kingdoms, and he gives them to anyone he wants.’


This word is by decree of the watchers, and the decision is by command from the holy ones. This is so that the living will know that the Most High is ruler over human kingdoms. He gives them to anyone he wants and sets the lowliest of people over them.


He changes the times and seasons; he removes kings and establishes kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.


The Lord says this to Cyrus, his anointed, whose right hand I have grasped to subdue nations before him and disarm   kings, to open doors before him, and even city gates will not be shut:


‘Because I raised you up from the dust  and made you ruler over my people Israel,  but you have walked in the ways of Jeroboam and have caused my people Israel to sin,  angering me with their sins,


Go and tell Jeroboam, “This is what the Lord God of Israel says: I raised you up from among the people, appointed you ruler over my people Israel,


Blessed be the Lord your God! He delighted in you and put you on the throne of Israel,  because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel.  He has made you king to carry out justice and righteousness.’


Your servant is among your people you have chosen,  a people too many to be numbered or counted.


There, the priest Zadok and the prophet Nathan are to anoint him as king over Israel.  You are to blow the ram’s horn  and say, “Long live King Solomon! ”


The Lord brings poverty and gives wealth; he humbles and he exalts.


He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the rubbish heap. He seats them with noblemen and gives them a throne of honour. For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s; he has set the world on them.


Samuel took the flask of oil,  poured it out on Saul’s head,  kissed him, and said, ‘Hasn’t the Lord anointed you  ruler over his inheritance?  ,


When he arrived, the army commanders were sitting there, so he said, ‘I have a message for you, commander.’ Jehu asked, ‘For which one of us? ’ He answered, ‘For you, commander.’
