Then Jehu drew his bow and shot Joram between the shoulders. The arrow went through his heart, and he slumped down in his chariot.

But a man drew his bow  without taking any special aim and struck the king of Israel through the joints of his armour. So he said to his charioteer, ‘Turn round and take me out of the battle,  for I am badly wounded! ’


When they say, ‘Peace and security’, then sudden destruction  will come upon them, like labour pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.


No wisdom, no understanding, and no counsel will prevail against the  Lord.


However, they were terrified and reasoned, ‘Look, two kings  couldn’t stand against him; how can we? ’


If someone asks him, “What are these wounds  on your chest?”   #– #then he will answer, “I received the wounds in the house of my friends.”


Then Jehu will put to death whoever escapes the sword of Hazael,  and Elisha will put to death whoever escapes the sword of Jehu.


‘Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? I will not bring the disaster during his lifetime,  because he has humbled himself before me. I will bring the disaster on his house during his son’s lifetime.’


The battle raged throughout that day, and the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Arameans. He died that evening,  and blood from his wound flowed into the bottom of the chariot.


The next morning when he went out and stood at the gate, he said to all the people, ‘You are innocent. It was I who conspired against my master and killed him.  But who struck down all these?
