Ahaziah died according to the word of the Lord that Elijah had spoken. Since he had no son, Joram , became king in his place. This happened in the second year of Judah’s King Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat.
Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he became king; he reigned for twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.
Jehosheba, who was King Jehoram’s daughter and Ahaziah’s sister, secretly rescued Joash son of Ahaziah from among the king’s sons who were being killed and put him and the one who nursed him in a bedroom. So he was hidden from Athaliah and was not killed.
Then the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah, his youngest son, king in his place, because the troops that had come with the Arabs to the camp had killed all the elder sons. So Ahaziah son of Jehoram became king of Judah.
