In the days of King Pekah of Israel, King Tiglath-pileser  of Assyria came and captured Ijon,  Abel-beth-maacah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor, Gilead, and Galilee #– #all the land of Naphtali   #– #and deported the people to Assyria.

So the God of Israel roused the spirit of King Pul  (that is, Tiglath-pileser  ) of Assyria, and he took the Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh into exile. He took them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and Gozan’s river, where they are until today.


In the ninth year of Hoshea,  the king of Assyria captured Samaria. He deported  the Israelites to Assyria and settled them in Halah, along the Habor (Gozan’s river), and in the cities of the Medes.


So Ahaz sent messengers  to King Tiglath-pileser  of Assyria, saying, ‘I am your servant and your son. March up and save me from the grasp of the king of Aram and of the king of Israel, who are rising up against me.’


Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel. He attacked Ijon,  Dan,  Abel-beth-maacah,  all Chinnereth,  and the whole land of Naphtali.

Finally, the Lord removed Israel from his presence just as he had declared through all his servants the prophets. So Israel has been exiled to Assyria from their homeland to this very day.

However, Israel did not burn any of the cities that stood on their mounds except Hazor, which Joshua burned.


At that time Joshua turned back, captured Hazor, and struck down its king with the sword, because Hazor had formerly been the leader of all these kingdoms.


The Lord will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will march out against them from one direction but flee from them in seven directions.  You will be an object of horror  to all the kingdoms of the earth.


So Moses gave Gilead to the clan of Machir son of Manasseh, and they settled in it.


The Reubenites and Gadites had a very large number of livestock. When they surveyed the lands of Jazer  and Gilead, they saw that the region was a good one for livestock.


I also will devastate the land, so that your enemies who come to live there will be appalled by it.


For the Lord will strike Israel so that they will  shake as a reed shakes in water. He will uproot Israel from this good soil that he gave to their ancestors.  He will scatter them beyond the Euphrates  because they made their Asherah poles, angering the Lord.

King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet King Tiglath-pileser  of Assyria. When he saw the altar that was in Damascus, King Ahaz sent a model of the altar and complete plans for its construction to the priest Uriah.


So the Lord rejected all the descendants of Israel, punished them, and handed them over to plunderers until he had banished them from his presence.


Many of the Hagrites were killed because it was God’s battle.  And they lived there in the Hagrites’ place  until the exile.


So now, our God #– #the great, mighty, and awe-inspiring God who keeps his gracious covenant   – do not view lightly all the hardships that have afflicted us, our kings and leaders, our priests and prophets, our ancestors and all your people, from the days of the Assyrian kings  until today.


Lord, it is true that the kings of Assyria have devastated all these countries and their lands.


The fortified cities were Ziddim, Zer, Hammath, Rakkath, Chinnereth,


The Danites set up the carved image for themselves. Jonathan son of Gershom, son of Moses,  and his sons were priests for the Danite tribe until the time of the exile from the land.

Look, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries: They completely destroyed them. Will you be rescued?


For before the boy knows to reject what is bad and choose what is good, the land of the two kings you dread will be abandoned.


Therefore, I handed her over to her lovers,  the Assyrians she lusted for.


So I will send you into exile beyond Damascus.’  The Lord, the God of Armies, is his name.  He has spoken.


But look, I am raising up a nation against you, house of Israel   – this is the declaration of the Lord, the  God of Armies – and they will oppress you from the entrance of Hamath  , to the Brook of the Arabah.
