Therefore, the Lord gave Israel a deliverer,  and they escaped from the power of the Arameans. Then the people of Israel returned to their former way of life,

So you handed them over to their enemies, who oppressed them. In their time of distress, they cried out to you, and you heard from heaven. In your abundant compassion you gave them deliverers, who rescued them from the power of their enemies.


The Lord had not said he would blot out the name of Israel under heaven,  so he delivered  them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Jehoash.


He restored Israel’s border  from Lebo-hamath  as far as the Sea of the Arabah,  according to the word the Lord, the God of Israel, had spoken through his servant, the prophet Jonah  son of Amittai from Gath-hepher.


Then Jehoash son of Jehoahaz took back from Ben-hadad son of Hazael the cities that Hazael had taken in war from Jehoash’s father Jehoahaz. Jehoash defeated Ben-hadad three times and recovered the cities of Israel.


Today in the city of David a Saviour  was born for you, who is the Messiah,  the Lord.


Saviours  will ascend Mount Zion to rule over the hill country of Esau, and the kingdom will be the  Lord’s.


It will be a sign and witness to the Lord of Armies in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the Lord because of their oppressors, he will send them a saviour and leader, and he will rescue them.


Even previously when Saul was king, you were leading Israel out to battle and bringing us back. The Lord your God also said to you, “You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will be ruler over my people Israel.” ’


So Jonathan summoned David and told him all these words. Then Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he served him as he did before.
