In the twenty-third year of Judah’s King Joash son of Ahaziah, Jehoahaz son of Jehu became king over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned for seventeen years.
In the seventh year, Jehoiada sent for the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, and the guards. He made them come to him in the Lord’s temple, where he made a covenant with them and put them under oath. He showed them the king’s son
Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned for one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Athaliah, granddaughter of Israel’s King Omri.
It was his servants Jozabad son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer who attacked him. He died and they buried him with his ancestors in the city of David, and his son Amaziah became king in his place.
Nevertheless, the Lord said to Jehu, ‘Because you have done well in carrying out what is right in my sight and have done to the house of Ahab all that was in my heart, four generations of your sons will sit on the throne of Israel.’
