Dear friends, although I was eager to write to you about the salvation we share,  I found it necessary to write, appealing to you to contend for the faith  that was delivered  to the saints once for all.


Indeed, we groan in this tent, desiring  to put on our heavenly dwelling,


I was very glad to find some of your children walking in truth,  in keeping with a command we have received from the Father.


Elijah was a human being as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the land.


For this reason, we must pay attention all the more to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away.


For now we live, if you stand firm  in the Lord.


But now Timothy has come to us  from you and brought us good news about your faith and love. He reported that you always have good memories of us and that you long to see us, as we also long to see you.


For I may be absent in body, but I am with you in spirit,  rejoicing to see how well ordered you are and the strength of your faith in Christ.


My eager expectation and hope  is that I will not be ashamed about anything, but that now as always, with all courage, Christ will be highly honoured in my body, whether by life  or by death.


Thanks be to God, who put the same concern for you into the heart of Titus.


I wrote for this purpose: to test your character  to see whether you are obedient  in everything.


just as you have partially understood us #– #that we are your reason for pride,  just as you also are ours  in the day of our  Lord Jesus.


that is, to be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.

And you are arrogant! Shouldn’t you be filled with grief  and remove from your congregation the one who did this?


He comforts us in all our affliction,  so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God.


But God, who comforts the downcast,  comforted us by the arrival of Titus,


For even if I grieved you with my letter,  I don’t regret it. And if I regretted it #– #since I saw that the letter grieved you, yet only for a while #– #
