I call on God as a witness,  on my life, that it was to spare you that I did not come to Corinth.

I declare in the sight of God: I am not lying in what I write to you.


What do you want? Should I come to you with a rod,  or in love and a spirit of gentleness?


This is why I am writing these things while absent, so that when I am there I may not have to deal harshly with you, in keeping with the authority the Lord gave me for building up  and not for tearing down.


I gave a warning when I was present the second time, and now I give a warning  while I am absent to those who sinned before and to all the rest: If I come again, I will not be lenient,


God is my witness,  whom I serve with my spirit  in telling the good news about his Son #– #that I constantly mention you,


For God is my witness,  how deeply I miss all of you  with the affection of Christ Jesus.


For I fear that perhaps when I come I will not find you to be what I want, and you may not find me to be what you want. Perhaps there will be quarrelling,  jealousy,  angry outbursts, selfish ambitions,  slander,  gossip, arrogance, and disorder.


Among them are Hymenaeus  and Alexander,  whom I have delivered to Satan,  so that they may be taught not to blaspheme.


For we never used flattering speech, as you know, or had greedy  motives   #– #God is our witness   #– #


The God and Father  of the Lord Jesus, who is blessed for ever, knows I am not lying.


Why? Because I don’t love you? God knows I do!


I beg you that when I am present I will not need to be bold with the confidence by which I plan to challenge certain people who think we are living according to the flesh.


As God is faithful,  our message to you is not ‘Yes and no’.


hand that one over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh,  so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.


I speak the truth in Christ   #– #I am not lying; my conscience testifies to me through the Holy Spirit   #– #


After this, he  left Athens and went to Corinth,


Crispus, the leader of the synagogue, believed in the Lord, along with his whole household.  Many of the Corinthians, when they heard, believed and were baptised.


Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by God’s will,  and Timothy  our  brother: To the church of God at Corinth,  with all the saints who are throughout Achaia.


by purity,  by knowledge,  by patience,  by kindness,  by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love,


As the truth of Christ is in me, this boasting of mine will not be stopped  in the regions of Achaia.
