So the Lord has fulfilled what he promised. I have taken the place of my father David and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord  promised. I have built the temple for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.

A generation goes and a generation comes, but the earth remains for ever.


Solomon son of David strengthened his hold on his kingdom.  The Lord his God was with him and highly exalted him.


Solomon sat on the Lord’s throne as king in place of his father David. He prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.


For we are foreigners and temporary residents in your presence as were all our ancestors.  Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope.


And out of all my sons   #– #for the Lord has given me many sons #– #he has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the Lord’s kingdom over Israel.


When your time comes to be with your ancestors, I will raise up after you your descendant, who is one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.


Solomon sat on the throne of his father David, and his kingship was firmly established.


Yet, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, your own offspring, will build the temple for my name.’


I have put the ark there, where the Lord’s covenant is that he made with the Israelites.


‘Now, my son, may the Lord be with you,  and may you succeed in building the house of the Lord your God, as he said about you.
