A pronouncement  concerning Egypt: Look, the Lord rides on a swift cloud and is coming to Egypt. Egypt’s worthless idols will tremble before him, and Egypt will lose heart.


They lift it to their shoulder and bear it along; they set it in its place, and there it stands; it does not budge from its place. They cry out to it but it doesn’t answer; it saves no one from his trouble.


The Lord will be terrifying to them when he starves all the gods of the earth. Then all the distant coasts and islands of the nations will bow in worship to him, each in its own place.


Whenever the unclean  spirits  saw him, they fell down  before him and cried out, ‘You are the Son of God! ’


They are both stupid and foolish, instructed by worthless idols made of wood!


The craftsman encourages the metalworker; the one who flattens with the hammer encourages the one who strikes the anvil, saying of the soldering, ‘It is good.’ He fastens it with nails so that it will not fall over.


A poor person contributes wood for a pedestal that will not rot. He looks for a skilled craftsman to set up an idol that will not fall over.


‘I will pass through  the land of Egypt on that night and strike every firstborn male in the land of Egypt, both people and animals. I am the Lord; I will execute judgements against all the gods of Egypt.


Make images of your tumours and of your mice that are destroying the land. Give glory to Israel’s God,  and perhaps he will stop oppressing you,  , your gods, and your land.


When the ark of the Lord had been in Philistine territory for seven months,


So they took the bull that he gave them, prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, ‘Baal, answer us! ’ But there was no sound;  no one answered. Then they danced  around the altar they had made.
