When David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the plunder to his friends, the elders of Judah, saying, ‘Here is a gift for you from the plunder of the Lord’s enemies.’
Therefore I considered it necessary to urge the brothers to go on ahead to you and arrange in advance the generous gift you promised, so that it will be ready as a gift and not as an extortion.
Then Naaman and his whole company went back to the man of God, stood before him, and declared, ‘I know there’s no God in the whole world except in Israel. Therefore, please accept a gift from your servant.’
Please take my present that was brought to you, because God has been gracious to me and I have everything I need.’ So Jacob urged him until he accepted.
Saul told David, ‘Here is my eldest daughter Merab. I’ll give her to you as a wife if you will be a warrior for me and fight the Lord’s battles.’ But Saul was thinking, ‘I don’t need to raise a hand against him; let the hand of the Philistines be against him.’
Please forgive your servant’s offence, for the Lord is certain to make a lasting dynasty for my lord because he fights the Lord’s battles. Throughout your life, may evil not be found in you.
