When David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the plunder to his friends, the elders of Judah, saying, ‘Here is a gift for you  from the plunder of the Lord’s enemies.’

Let this gift  your servant has brought to my lord be given to the young men who follow my lord.


Therefore I considered it necessary to urge the brothers to go on ahead to you and arrange in advance the generous gift  you promised, so that it will be ready as a gift and not as an extortion.


But a noble person plans noble things; he stands up for noble causes.


Then Naaman and his whole company went back to the man of God, stood before him, and declared, ‘I know there’s no God in the whole world except in Israel.  Therefore, please accept a gift  from your servant.’


Please take my present that was brought to you, because God has been gracious to me and I have everything I need.’ So Jacob urged him until he accepted.


Saul told David, ‘Here is my eldest daughter Merab. I’ll give her to you as a wife  if you will be a warrior for me and fight the Lord’s battles.’  But Saul was thinking, ‘I don’t need to raise a hand against him; let the hand of the Philistines be against him.’


Please forgive your servant’s offence,  for the Lord is certain to make a lasting dynasty for my lord  because he fights the Lord’s battles.  Throughout your life, may evil  not be found in you.


He took all the flocks and herds, which were driven ahead of the other livestock, and the people shouted, ‘This is David’s plunder! ’


And it has been so from that day forward. David established this policy  as a law and an ordinance for Israel and it still continues today.


After the death of Saul,  David returned from defeating the Amalekites  and stayed at Ziklag for two days.
