Then Abigail went to Nabal, and there he was in his house, holding a feast fit for a king.  Nabal’s heart was cheerful,  and he was very drunk, so she didn’t say anything  to him  until morning light.

Wine is a mocker,  beer is a brawler; whoever goes astray  because of them is not wise.


Now Absalom commanded his young men, ‘Watch Amnon until he is in a good mood from the wine. When I order you to strike Amnon, then kill him. Don’t be afraid. Am I not the one who has commanded you? Be strong and valiant! ’


Two years later, Absalom’s sheep-shearers were at Baal-hazor near Ephraim, and Absalom invited all the king’s sons.


Then she said to her male servants, ‘Go ahead of me. I will be right behind you.’  But she did not tell her husband, Nabal.


Let us walk with decency,  as in the daytime: not in carousing and drunkenness;  not in sexual impurity and promiscuity; not in quarrelling and jealousy.


‘Look, I’m sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.


And don’t get drunk  with wine,  which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit:


for what makes everything visible is light. Therefore it is said: Get up, sleeper,  and rise up from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.

Promiscuity,  wine, and new wine take away one’s understanding.

A feast is prepared for laughter, and wine makes life happy, and money  is the answer for everything.


They marched out at noon while Ben-hadad and the thirty-two kings  who were helping him were getting drunk in their quarters.


In the morning when Nabal sobered up,  his wife told him about these events. His heart died  and he became a stone.


When Abner and twenty men came to David at Hebron, David held a banquet for him and his men.
