Jonathan made a covenant with David  because he loved him as much as himself.


But the king took Armoni and Mephibosheth, who were the two sons whom Rizpah  daughter of Aiah had borne to Saul, and the five sons whom Merab  , daughter of Saul had borne to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite

Then the two of them made a covenant in the Lord’s presence.  Afterwards, David remained in Horesh, while Jonathan went home.


Now my lord, as surely as the Lord lives and as you yourself live #– #it is the Lord who kept you from participating in bloodshed and avenging yourself  by your own hand–may your enemies and those who intend to harm my lord be like Nabal.
