The boy Samuel served the Lord in Eli’s presence.  In those days the word of the Lord was rare and prophetic visions were not widespread.


These are the garments that they must make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a specially woven tunic,  a turban, and a sash. They are to make holy garments for your brother Aaron and his sons so that they may serve me as priests.


Elkanah went home to Ramah,  but the boy served the Lord in the presence of the priest Eli.


David was dancing  with all his might before the Lord wearing a linen ephod.


So the king said to Doeg, ‘Go and execute the priests! ’ So Doeg the Edomite went and executed the priests himself. On that day, he killed eighty-five men  who wore linen ephods.


Now David was dressed in a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who were carrying the ark, as well as the singers and Chenaniah, the music leader of the singers. David also wore a linen ephod.


Out of all the tribes of Israel, I chose your house  to be my priests, to offer sacrifices on my altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod in my presence.  I also gave your forefather’s family all the Israelite food offerings.


He put the tunic on Aaron, wrapped the sash round him, clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod  on him. He put the woven band of the ephod round him and fastened it to him.


Ahijah,  who was wearing an ephod,  was also there. He was the son of Ahitub, the brother of Ichabod  son of Phinehas, son of Eli the Lord’s priest at Shiloh.  But the troops did not know that Jonathan had left.
