Samuel said to him, ‘The Lord has torn the kingship of Israel away from you today  and has given it to your neighbour who is better than you.

but now your reign will not endure.  The Lord has found a man after his own heart,  , and the Lord has appointed him as ruler over his people, because you have not done what the Lord commanded.’


Balaam said to the angel of the Lord, ‘I have sinned, for I did not know that you were standing in the path to confront me. And now, if it is evil in your sight, I will go back.’


Now the people began complaining openly before  the Lord about hardship. When the Lord heard, his anger burned,  and fire  from the Lord blazed among them and consumed the outskirts of the camp.


So Saul watched David jealously from that day forward.


Saul ordered his son Jonathan and all his servants to kill David.  But Saul’s son Jonathan liked David very much,


‘Are you really going to reign over us? ’ his brothers asked him. ‘Are you really going to rule us? ’ So they hated him even more because of his dream and what he had said.


His brothers were jealous of him,  but his father kept the matter in mind.
