When David had finished speaking with Saul, Jonathan was bound to David in close friendship,  and loved him as much as he loved himself.

One with many friends may be harmed, but there is a friend who stays closer than a brother.


Jonathan once again swore to David  in his love for him, because he loved him as he loved himself.


I grieve for you, Jonathan, my brother. You were such a friend to me. Your love for me was more wondrous than the love of women.


Jonathan made a covenant with David  because he loved him as much as himself.


I want their hearts to be encouraged  and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of complete understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery   #– #Christ.  ,


‘So if I come to your servant my father and the boy is not with us #– #his life is wrapped up with the boy’s life #– #


‘If your brother, the son of your mother,  or your son or daughter, or the wife you embrace, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, “Let’s go and worship other gods” #– #which neither you nor your ancestors have known,


David went out to meet them and said to them, ‘If you have come in peace to help me, my heart will be united with you, but if you have come to betray me to my enemies even though my hands have done no wrong, may the God of our ancestors look on it and judge.’


so he told him, ‘My father, Saul, intends to kill you. Be on your guard in the morning and hide in a secret place and stay there.


So all the men of Israel  gathered united against the city.


But the people said to Saul, ‘Must Jonathan die? He accomplished such a great deliverance for Israel! No, as the Lord lives, not a hair of his head will fall to the ground,  for he worked with God’s help today.’  So the people redeemed Jonathan, and he did not die.


Saul ordered his son Jonathan and all his servants to kill David.  But Saul’s son Jonathan liked David very much,


Deal kindly with  your servant, for you have brought me into a covenant with you before the Lord.  If I have done anything wrong,  then kill me yourself; why take me to your father? ’


That’s why all of you have conspired against me! Nobody tells me when my own son makes a covenant with Jesse’s son.  None of you cares about me  or tells me that my son has stirred up my own servant to wait in ambush for me, as is the case today.’


Then the two of them made a covenant in the Lord’s presence.  Afterwards, David remained in Horesh, while Jonathan went home.
