When Saul had seen David going out to confront the Philistine, he asked Abner the commander of the army, ‘Whose son is this youth, Abner? ’ ‘Your Majesty, as surely as you live, I don’t know,’ Abner replied.

Saul said to him, ‘Whose son are you, young man? ’ ‘The son of your servant Jesse of Bethlehem,’  David answered.

‘Please, my lord,’ she said, ‘as surely as you live,  my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the Lord.


The name of Saul’s wife was Ahinoam daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the commander of his army was Abner son of Saul’s uncle Ner.
