Now everyone who competes exercises self-control  in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown,  but we an imperishable crown.

Also, if anyone competes as an athlete, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.


Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. Look, the devil   is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will experience affliction for ten days.   Be faithful to the point of death,   and I will give you the crown   of life.


Fight the good fight  of the faith. Take hold of eternal life  to which you were called and about which you have made a good confession in the presence of many witnesses.


I am coming soon.   Hold on to what you have,   so that no one takes your crown.


Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown  of life that God  has promised to those who love him.

Older men  are to be self-controlled, worthy of respect, sensible, and sound in faith, love,  and endurance.
