Jabez  was more honoured than his brothers. His mother named him Jabez and said, ‘I gave birth to him in pain.’

The people here were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, since they received the word with eagerness and examined  the Scriptures  daily to see if these things were so.


She named the boy Ichabod,  saying, ‘The glory has departed from Israel,’  referring to the capture of the ark of God  and to the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband.
