But a son will be born to you; he will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his surrounding enemies,  for his name will be Solomon,  , and I will give peace and quiet to Israel during his reign.

Throughout Solomon’s reign, Judah and Israel lived in safety from Dan to Beer-sheba,  each person under his own vine and his own fig tree.


The Lord my God has now given me rest on every side; there is no enemy or misfortune.

‘You know the kingship was mine,’  he said. ‘All Israel expected me to be king, but then the kingship was turned over to my brother,  for the Lord gave it to him.

‘The Lord your God is with you, isn’t he? And hasn’t he given you rest on every side?  For he has handed the land’s inhabitants over to me, and the land has been subdued before the Lord and his people.


You have kept what you promised to your servant, my father David. You spoke directly to him, and you fulfilled your promise by your power, as it is today.


‘Blessed be the Lord! He has given rest  to his people Israel according to all he has said. Not one of all the good promises he made through his servant Moses has failed.
