Then King David went in,  sat in the Lord’s presence, and said, Who am I, Lord God, and what is my house that you have brought me this far?


I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you have shown your servant. Indeed, I crossed over the Jordan with my staff, and now I have become two camps.

Hezekiah took  the letter  from the messengers’ hands, read it, then went up to the Lord’s temple, and spread it out before the Lord.


He said to him, ‘Please, Lord, how can I deliver Israel? Look, my family is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father’s family.’


Nathan reported all these words and this entire vision to David.


This was a little thing to you,  God, for you have spoken about your servant’s house in the distant future. You regard me as a man of distinction,  Lord God.


But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? For everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your own hand.


And Solomon said to God, ‘You have shown great and faithful love to my father David, and you have made me king in his place.
