Romans 9:4

They are the descendants of Israel, and they are also God's chosen people. God showed them his glory. He made agreements with them and gave them his Law. The temple is theirs and so are the promises that God made to them.

At that time you did not know about Christ. You were foreigners to the people of Israel, and you had no part in the promises that God had made to them. You were living in this world without hope and without God,

God gave his laws and teachings to the descendants of Jacob, the nation of Israel.

It cannot be said that God broke his promise. After all, not all the people of Israel are the true people of God.

I will keep my solemn promise to you and give you more descendants than can be counted.”

This promise is for you and your children. It is for everyone our Lord God will choose, no matter where they live.”

Israel, you are the chosen people of the LORD your God. There are many nations on this earth, but he chose only Israel to be his very own.

Then tell him that I have said, “Israel is my firstborn son,

The first promise that was made included rules for worship and a tent for worship here on earth.

You said, “David, my servant, is my chosen one, and this is the agreement I made with him:

The Lord's glory was in the cloud, and the light from it was so bright that the priests could not stay inside to do their work.

God's Spirit doesn't make us slaves who are afraid of him. Instead, we become his children and call him our Father.

The Law was given by Moses, but Jesus Christ brought us undeserved kindness and truth.

Here is the new agreement that I, the LORD, will make with the people of Israel: “I will write my laws on their hearts and minds. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

People of Israel, you are the LORD's children, so when you mourn for the dead, you must not cut yourselves or shave your forehead.

I will always keep the promise I have made to you and your descendants, because I am your God and their God.

These rules are merely about such things as eating and drinking and ceremonies for washing ourselves. And rules about physical things will last only until the time comes to change them for something better.

Behind the curtain was the most holy place.

When Jesus saw Nathanael coming towards him, he said, “Here is a true descendant of our ancestor Israel. And he isn't deceitful.”

My friend dug the ground, removed the stones, and planted the best vines. He built a watchtower and dug a pit in rocky ground for pressing the grapes. He hoped they would be sweet, but bitter grapes were all it produced.

Do wonderful things for us, your servants, and show your mighty power to our children.

“I won't break my agreement or go back on my word.

He let enemies capture the sacred chest and let them dishonour him.

God is truly good to Israel, especially to everyone with a pure heart.

I have seen your power and your glory in the place of worship.

I pray that God will punish them for breaking their priestly vows and disgracing the Levi tribe.

The LORD said: Moses, you will soon die. But Israel is going into a land where other gods are worshipped, and Israel will reject me and start worshipping these gods. The people will break the agreement I made with them,

So Moses finished telling the Israelites what they had to do in order to keep the agreement the LORD was making with them in Moab, which was in addition to the one the LORD had made with them at Mount Sinai.

Whenever Moses needed to talk with the LORD, he went into the sacred tent, where he heard the LORD's voice coming from between the two winged creatures above the lid of the sacred chest.

Suddenly the sacred tent was covered by a thick cloud and filled with the glory of the LORD.

The LORD told Moses to put these laws in writing, as part of his agreement with Israel.

The man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob. You have wrestled with God and with men, and you have won. That's why your name will be Israel.”

As the sign that you are keeping this promise, you must circumcise every man and boy in your family.

At that time the LORD made an agreement with Abram and told him: I will give your descendants the land east of the River Shihor on the border of Egypt as far as the River Euphrates.

It is good in a lot of ways! First of all, God's messages were spoken to the Jews.

The LORD said he was making an agreement with you, and he told you that your part of the agreement is to obey the Ten Commandments. Then the LORD wrote these Commandments on two flat stones.

as colourful as a rainbow that appears after a storm. I realized I was seeing the brightness of the LORD's glory! So I bowed with my face to the ground, and just then I heard a voice speaking to me.

Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Jews? So am I. Are they from the family of Abraham? Well, so am I.

That is how it is with the promises God made to Abraham and his descendant. The promises were not made to many descendants, but only to one, and that one is Christ.

On top of the chest were the glorious creatures with wings opened out above the place of mercy. Now isn't the time to go into detail about these things.

But this is how everything was when the priests went each day into the first part of the tent to do their duties.
