I have more troubles than I can count. My sins are all around me, and I can't find my way. My sins outnumber the hairs on my head, and I feel weak.

The young man said, “I have obeyed all these. What else must I do?”

But he said to his father, “For years I have worked for you like a slave and have always obeyed you. But you have never even given me a little goat, so that I could give a dinner for my friends.

He told Jesus, “I have obeyed all these commandments since I was a young man.”

Moses said that a person could become acceptable to God by obeying the Law. He did this when he wrote, “If you want to live, you must do all that the Law commands.”

and I died. The very command that was supposed to bring life to me, instead brought death.

Sin used this command to trick me, and because of it I died.

That is how it is with you, my friends. You are now part of the body of Christ and are dead to the power of the Law. You are free to belong to Christ, who was raised to life so that we could serve God.

But the Law no longer rules over us. We are like dead people, and it cannot have any power over us. Now we can serve God in a new way by obeying his Spirit, and not in the old way by obeying the written Law.

It was sin that used this command as a way of making me have all kinds of desires. But without the Law, sin is dead.

Our desires fight against God, because they do not and cannot obey God's laws.

It was the Law itself that killed me and freed me from its power, so that I could live for God. I have been nailed to the cross with Christ.

Anyone who tries to please God by obeying the Law is under a curse. The Scriptures say, “Everyone who doesn't obey everything in the Law is under a curse.”
