I am crushed by insults, and I feel sick. I had hoped for mercy and pity, but there was none.

My love for your house burns in me like a fire, and when others insulted you, they insulted me as well.

It is enough for disciples to be like their teacher and for slaves to be like their master. If people call the head of the family Satan, what will they say about the rest of the family?

Jesus walked on a little way. Then he knelt with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, don't make me suffer by making me drink from this cup. But do what you want, and not what I want.”

Again Jesus went to pray and said, “My Father, if there is no other way, and I must suffer, I will still do what you want.”

The two criminals also said cruel things to Jesus.

If you obey me, I will keep loving you, just as my Father keeps loving me, because I have obeyed him.

I have done things that no one else has ever done. If they had not seen me do these things, they would not be guilty. But they did see me do these things, and they still hate me and my Father too.

Jesus said: My food is to do what God wants! He is the one who sent me, and I must finish the work that he gave me to do.

I cannot do anything on my own. The Father sent me, and he is the one who told me how to judge. I judge with fairness, because I obey him, and I don't just try to please myself.

I didn't come from heaven to do what I want! I came to do what the Father wants me to do. He sent me,

The one who sent me is with me. I always do what pleases him, and he will never leave me.”

You know that our Lord Jesus Christ was kind enough to give up all his riches and become poor, so that you could become rich.

and think the same way that Christ Jesus thought:

Christ was humble. He obeyed God and even died on a cross.
