Our LORD and our God, you answered their prayers and forgave their sins, but when they did wrong, you punished them.

Yet God was kind. He kept forgiving their sins and didn't destroy them. He often became angry, but never lost his temper.

But I will always love David and faithfully keep all of my promises to him.

Aaron told them, “Bring me the gold earrings that your wives and sons and daughters are wearing.”

I keep my promises to my people for ever, but I also punish anyone who sins. When people sin, I punish them and their children, and also their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”

I did learn one thing: we were completely honest when God created us, but now we have twisted minds.

So don't be afraid, even though now you deserve to be punished and have been scattered among other nations. But when I destroy them, I will protect you. I, the LORD, have spoken.

God felt certain that Jerusalem would learn to respect and obey him. Then he would hold back from punishing the city and not wipe it out. But everyone there was eager to start sinning again.

But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you refused to believe in my power, these people did not respect me. And so, you will not be the ones to lead them into the land I have promised.”

“Aaron, this is where you will die. You and Moses disobeyed me at Meribah, and so you will not enter the land I promised the Israelites.

They know about God, but they don't honour him or even thank him. Their thoughts are useless, and their stupid minds are in the dark.

But the LORD was angry with me because of you people, and he refused to listen. “That's enough!” he said. “I don't want to hear any more.
