The descendants of Joseph were told to obey it, when God led them out from the land of Egypt. In a language unknown to me, I heard someone say:

God brought his people out of Egypt, that land with a strange language.

With your own arm you rescued your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.

so that each new generation would know his Law and tell it to the next.

Moses went to the king and said: I have come to let you know what the LORD is going to do. About midnight he will go through the land of Egypt,

That same night I will pass through Egypt and kill the firstborn son in every family and the firstborn male of all animals. I am the LORD, and I will punish the gods of Egypt.

And you will answer, “The Passover animal is killed to honour the LORD. We do these things because on that night long ago the LORD passed over the homes of our people in Egypt. He killed the firstborn sons of the Egyptians, but he saved our children from death.” After Moses finished speaking, the people of Israel knelt down and worshipped the LORD.

At midnight the LORD killed the firstborn son of every Egyptian family, from the son of the king to the son of every prisoner in jail. He also killed the firstborn male of every animal that belonged to the Egyptians.

So, the Lord will speak to his people in strange sounds and foreign languages.

People of Israel, I have made my decision. An army from a distant country will attack you. I've chosen an ancient nation, and you won't understand their language.

I told them to respect my Sabbath to show that they were my people and that I was the LORD their God.

You drink all the wine you want and wear expensive perfume, but you don't care about the ruin of your nation.

Foreigners who speak a strange language will be sent to attack you without warning, just like an eagle swooping down.
