I pray only to you. Don't disappoint me. Disappoint my cruel enemies until they lie silent in their graves.

You chased off the nations by causing them trouble with your powerful arm. Then you let our ancestors take over their land.

You brought hard times on your people, and you gave us wine that made us stagger.

He made nations run from the tribes of Israel, and he let the tribes take over their land.

My beautiful land is ruined like a field or a vineyard trampled by shepherds and stripped bare by their flocks.

You were a choice grapevine, but now you produce nothing but small, rotten grapes.

I, the LORD God, promise that just as the wood of a grapevine is burnt as firewood,

The seed sprouted and grew into a grapevine that spread over the ground. It had lots of leaves and strong, deep roots, and its branches grew upward towards the eagle.

Your mother was a vine growing near a stream. There was plenty of water, so she was filled with branches and with lots of fruit.

Later it was given to our ancestors, and they took it with them when they went with Joshua. They carried the tent along as they took over the land from those people that God had chased out for them. Our ancestors used this tent until the time of King David.
