My enemies insult me. Neighbours are even worse, and I disgust my friends. People meet me in the street, and they turn and run.

Because of my sickness, no friends or neighbours will come near me.

I am your chosen one, but your enemies chase and make fun of me.

Our LORD, we praise you for ever. Amen and amen.

I let them beat my back and pull out my beard. I didn't turn aside when they insulted me and spat in my face.

He was hated and rejected; his life was filled with sorrow and terrible suffering. No one wanted to look at him. We despised him and said, “He is a nobody!”

He suffered and endured great pain for us, but we thought his suffering was punishment from God.

You can see how I suffer insult after insult, all because of you, LORD. Don't be so patient with my enemies; take revenge on them before they kill me.

Even Jesus' own brothers had not yet become his followers.
