Reach down from heaven and set me free. Save me from the mighty flood

Don't let my brutal enemies be glad because of me. They hate me for no reason. Don't let them wink behind my back.

In my heart, I am thirsty for you, the living God. When will I see your face?

Your vicious waves have swept over me like an angry ocean or a roaring waterfall.

Don't let me be swept away by a flood or drowned in the ocean or swallowed by death.

You willingly forgive, and your love is always there for those who pray to you.

From the bottom of the pit, I prayed to you, LORD.

All who worship worthless idols turn from the God who offers them mercy.

But the people of his country hated him, and they sent messengers to the foreign country to say, “We don't want this man to be our king.”

Now bring me the enemies who didn't want me to be their king. Kill them while I watch!”
