I will no longer let my people Israel live in this land I gave them. I will desert this temple where I said I would be worshipped. Then people everywhere will think this nation is only a joke and will make fun of it.

You, God, are the reason I am insulted and spat on.

I have gone without eating, until my knees are weak, and my body is bony.

About this same time the LORD had told me, “Isaiah, take off everything, including your sandals!” I did this and went around naked and barefoot

When all this happened, the LORD All-Powerful told you to weep and mourn, to shave your heads, and wear sackcloth.

I will punish them with a terrible disaster, and everyone on earth will tremble when they hear about it. I will force the people of Judah to go to foreign countries, where they will be cursed and insulted.

Mourn, you priests who serve at the altar of my God. Spend your days and nights wearing sackcloth. Offerings of grain and wine are no longer brought to the LORD's temple.

Grieve like a young woman mourning for the man she was to marry.

People of nearby countries will shudder when they see your terrible troubles, but they will still make fun of you.
