Hadadezer sent messengers to call in the Arameans who were on the other side of the River Euphrates. Then Shobach, the commander of Hadadezer's army, led them to the town of Helam.

David attacked the Philistines and defeated them. Then he said, “I watched the LORD break through my enemies like a mighty flood.” So he named the place “The Lord Broke Through”.

David left soldiers all through Edom, and the people of Edom had to accept him as their ruler. Wherever David went, the LORD helped him.

David set out for the River Euphrates to build a monument there. On his way, he defeated the king of Zobah, whose name was Hadadezer the son of Rehob.

While Amaziah was king, he killed ten thousand Edomite soldiers in Salt Valley. He captured the town of Sela and renamed it Joktheel, which is still its name.

While King Hadadezer of Zobah was trying to gain control of the territory near the River Euphrates, David met him in battle at Hamath and defeated him.

Solomon, my son, worship God and obey him with all your heart and mind, just as I have done. He knows all your thoughts and your reasons for doing things, and so if you turn to him, he will hear your prayers. But if you ignore him, he will reject you for ever.

After Amaziah got his courage back, he led his troops to Salt Valley, where he killed ten thousand Edomite soldiers in battle.

Have you rejected us? You don't lead our armies.

But now you have rejected us; you don't lead us into battle, and we look foolish.

Save me, God! Protect me from enemy attacks!

Don't kill them, or everyone may forget! Just use your mighty power to make them tremble and fall. You are a shield for your people.

Have you rejected us and deserted our armies?

Our God, why have you completely rejected us? Why are you so angry with the ones you care for?

Our LORD, will you keep on being angry? Will your angry feelings keep flaming up like fire?

Our God, you keep us safe. Now help us! Rescue us. Forgive our sins and bring honour to yourself.

Shepherd of Israel, you lead the descendants of Joseph, and you sit on your throne above the winged creatures. Listen to our prayer and let your light shine

Our God, make us strong again! Smile on us and save us.

Our LORD and our God, you save us! Please bring us back home and don't be angry.

In a vision, you once said to your faithful followers: “I have helped a mighty hero. I chose him from my people and made him famous.

You said, “David, my servant, is my chosen one, and this is the agreement I made with him:

You are now angry, God, and you have turned your back on your chosen king.

You are the most fearsome of all who live in heaven; all the others fear and greatly honour you.

Help us, LORD! Don't wait! Pity your servants.

I will strengthen the kingdoms of Judah and Israel. And I will show mercy because I am the LORD, their God. I will answer their prayers and bring them home. Then it will seem as though I had never rejected them.
