The woman answered, “God said we could eat fruit from any tree in the garden,

The smell of the burning offering pleased God, and he said: Never again will I punish the earth for the sinful things its people do. All of them have evil thoughts from the time they are young, but I will never destroy everything that breathes, as I did this time.

But their food will turn sour and poison their stomachs.

They will die from the fangs of poisonous snakes

Their words bite deep like the poisonous fangs of a snake.

Wash me with hyssop until I am clean and whiter than snow.

The power to charm a snake does you no good if it bites you anyway.

Little children will play near snake holes. They will stick their hands into dens of poisonous snakes and never be hurt.

“Watch out!” the LORD says. “I'm sending poisonous snakes to attack you, and no one can stop them.”

You are nothing but snakes and the children of snakes! How can you escape going to hell?

Many Pharisees and Sadducees also came to be baptized. But John said to them: You snakes! Who warned you to run from the coming judgment?

Their words are like an open pit, and their tongues are good only for telling lies. Each word is as deadly as the fangs of a snake,

their wine is more deadly than cobra venom.

But our tongues get out of control. They are restless and evil, and always spreading deadly poison.
