The men chosen to play the cymbals were Heman the son of Joel, his relative Asaph the son of Berechiah, and Ethan the son of Kushaiah from the Merari clan. Some of their assistants played the smaller harps: they were Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah. Others played the larger harps: they were Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Azaziah, and two of the temple guards, Obed-Edom and Jeiel.

David chose Asaph and the Levites in his clan to be in charge of the daily worship at the place where the sacred chest was kept.

Asaph's four sons, Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asarelah, were under the direction of their father and played music whenever the king told them to.

His sons were under his direction and played cymbals, harps, and other stringed instruments during times of worship at the temple. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman took their orders directly from the king.

Then Hezekiah and his officials ordered the Levites to sing the songs of praise that David and Asaph the prophet had written. And so they bowed down and joyfully sang praises to the LORD.

Our God, you are powerful, fearsome, and faithful, always true to your word. So please keep in mind the terrible sufferings of our people, kings, leaders, priests, and prophets, from the time Assyria ruled until this very day.

You alone are the LORD, Creator of the heavens and all the stars, Creator of the earth and those who live on it, Creator of the ocean and all its creatures. You are the source of life, praised by the stars that fill the heavens.

From dawn until sunset the name of the LORD deserves to be praised.

God is truly good to Israel, especially to everyone with a pure heart.

Our God, why have you completely rejected us? Why are you so angry with the ones you care for?

Our God, we thank you for being so near to us! Everyone celebrates your wonderful deeds.

You, our God, are famous in Judah and honoured in Israel.

I pray to you, Lord God, and I beg you to listen.

My friends, I beg you to listen as I teach.

Our God, foreign nations have taken your land, disgraced your temple, and left Jerusalem in ruins.

Shepherd of Israel, you lead the descendants of Joseph, and you sit on your throne above the winged creatures. Listen to our prayer and let your light shine

Be happy and shout to God who makes us strong! Shout praises to the God of Jacob.

When all the other gods have come together, the Lord God judges them and says:

Our God, don't just sit there, silently doing nothing!

The LORD has said, “Listen, heaven and earth! The children I raised have turned against me.

But you are our LORD and our God! We ask you to keep us safe from the Assyrian king. Then everyone in every kingdom on earth will know that you are the only LORD.

The LORD All-Powerful, the Holy God of Israel, rules all the earth. He is your Creator and husband, and he will rescue you.

A child has been born for us. We have been given a son who will be our ruler. His names will be Wonderful Adviser and Mighty God, Eternal Father and Prince of Peace.

Our LORD, great and powerful, you alone are God.

Everyone is terrified when a lion roars— and ordinary people become prophets when the LORD God speaks.

From dawn until dusk my name is praised by every nation on this earth, as they burn incense and offer the proper sacrifices to me.

The people of all nations will be brought before him, and he will separate them, as shepherds separate their sheep from their goats.

The LORD is the greatest God! We ask him to be our witness, because he knows whether or not we were rebellious or unfaithful when we built that altar. If we were unfaithful, then we pray that God won't rescue us today. Let us tell you why we built that altar,
