Punish them, God, and let their own plans bring their downfall. Get rid of them! They keep committing crimes and turning against you.

Someone told David, “Ahithophel is helping Absalom plot against you!” David said, “Please, LORD, keep Ahithophel's plans from working!”

Absalom and the others liked Hushai's plan better than Ahithophel's plan. This was because the LORD had decided to keep Ahithophel's plan from working and to cause trouble for Absalom.

When Ahithophel saw that Absalom and the leaders of Israel were not going to follow his advice, he saddled his donkey and rode back to his home in Gilo. He told his family and servants what to do. Then he hanged himself, and they buried him in his family's burial place.

But before the prophet finished speaking, Amaziah interrupted and said, “You're not one of my advisers! Don't say another word, or I'll have you killed.” The prophet stopped. But then he added, “First you sinned and now you've ignored my warning. It's clear that God has decided to punish you!”

Straight away, Haman was hanged on the tower he had built to hang Mordecai, and the king calmed down.

Now break the arms of all merciless people. Punish them for doing wrong and make them stop.

because you had rebelled against God Most High and refused his advice.

Do something, LORD! Attack and defeat them. Take your sword and save me from those evil people.

Silence those proud liars! Make them stop boasting and insulting your people.

Disappoint and confuse all who are glad to see me in trouble, but disgrace and embarrass my proud enemies who say to me, “You are nothing!”

All who hate me are controlled by the power of evil. Sentence them to death and send them down alive to the world of the dead.

His mighty power rules for ever, and nothing the nations do can be hidden from him. So don't turn against God.

Embarrass and destroy all who want me dead; disgrace and confuse all who want to hurt me.

Each of those nations sneered at you, our Lord. Now let others sneer at them, seven times as much.

The LORD has said, “Listen, heaven and earth! The children I raised have turned against me.

But if you turn against me, your enemies will kill you. I, the LORD, have spoken.

Then the LORD's people turned against him and made his Holy Spirit sad. So he became their enemy and attacked them.

Enemies now rule the city and live as they please. The LORD has punished Jerusalem because of her awful sins; he has let her people be dragged away.

But we have sinned terribly by rebelling against you and rejecting your laws and teachings.

LORD God, you are merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against you

Israel, the time has come. You will get what you deserve, and you will know it. “Prophets are fools,” you say. “And God's messengers are mad.” Your terrible guilt has filled you with hatred.

This is because God considers the wisdom of this world to be foolish. It is just as the Scriptures say, “God catches the wise when they try to outsmart him.”

But Sihon refused to let us go across his country, because the LORD made him stubborn and eager to fight us. The LORD told me, “I am going to help you defeat Sihon and take his land, so attack him!”

The LORD your God will keep you safe when your enemies try to kill you. But he will snatch away their lives quicker than you can throw a stone from a sling.

David heard that Nabal had died. “I praise the LORD!” David said. “He has judged Nabal guilty for insulting me. The LORD kept me from doing anything wrong, and he made sure that Nabal hurt only himself with his own evil.” Abigail was still at Carmel. So David sent messengers to ask her if she would marry him.
