Your wonderful teachings protect me from the insults that I hate so much.

Be true to your name, LORD, by forgiving each one of my terrible sins.

See my troubles and misery and forgive my sins.

They are quick to accuse me. They say, “You did it! We saw you ourselves.”

You made us look foolish to our neighbours, and people who live nearby insult us and sneer.

Keep me from any deadly sin. Only you can save me! Then I will shout and sing about your power to save.

You will send help from heaven and save me, but you will bring trouble on my attackers. You are faithful, and you can be trusted.

Our terrible sins get us down, but you forgive us.

Every nation around us sneers and makes fun.

Tell my servants, the priests, to cry inside the temple and to offer this prayer near the altar: “Save your people, LORD God! Don't let foreign nations make jokes about us. Don't let them laugh and ask, ‘Where is your God?’ ”

In answer to their prayers he said, “I will give you enough grain, wine, and olive oil to satisfy your needs. No longer will I let you be insulted by the nations.

and pleased to be merciful. You will trample on our sins and throw them in the sea.

Then after her baby is born, name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

He gave himself to rescue us from everything that is evil and to make our hearts pure. He wanted us to be his own people and to be eager to do right.
