You kept me from the hands of my enemies, and you set me free.

And God is the one who handed me over to this merciless mob.

And at this very moment, God deeply desires to lead you from trouble and to spread your table with your favourite food.

But you see the trouble and the distress, and you will do something. The poor can count on you, and so can orphans.

When I was fenced in, you freed and rescued me because you love me.

You are my God and protector. Please answer my prayer. I was in terrible distress, but you set me free. Now have pity and listen as I pray.

You have made my friends turn in horror from me. I am a prisoner who cannot escape,

and because he knew what was happening to his people, he felt sorry for them.

I will put the Egyptians under the power of a cruel, heartless king. I, the LORD All-Powerful, have promised this.”

We called out for help to you, the LORD God of our ancestors. You heard our cries; you knew we were in trouble and abused.

How could one enemy soldier chase a thousand of Israel's troops? Or how could two of theirs pursue ten thousand of ours? It can only happen if the LORD stops protecting Israel and lets the enemy win.

Today the LORD will help me defeat you. I'll knock you down and cut off your head, and I'll feed the bodies of the other Philistine soldiers to the birds and wild animals. Then the whole world will know that Israel has a real God.

You've told me how you were kind enough not to kill me when the LORD gave you the chance.

Abishai whispered, “This time God has let you get your hands on your enemy! I'll pin him to the ground with one thrust of his own spear.”
