David sang a song to the LORD after the LORD had rescued him from his enemies, especially Saul. These are the words to David's song:

On the day disaster struck, they came and attacked, but you defended me.

You have blessed me because I have always followed your teachings.

I am surrounded by trouble, but you protect me against my angry enemies. With your own powerful arm you keep me safe.

The LORD All-Powerful is with us. The God of Jacob is our fortress.

But I will sing about your strength, my God, and I will celebrate because of your love. You are my fortress, my place of protection in times of trouble.

When your enemies attack, I will scatter you like dust blown by an eastern wind. Then, on that day of disaster, I will turn my back on you.

For a while I was angry with the nations, but now I am furious, because they have made things worse for Jerusalem and are not the least bit concerned.

Soon our enemies will get what they deserve— suddenly they will slip, and total disaster will quickly follow.

David was desperate. His soldiers were so upset over what had happened to their sons and daughters that they were thinking about stoning David to death. But he felt the LORD God giving him strength,
