Solomon, my son, worship God and obey him with all your heart and mind, just as I have done. He knows all your thoughts and your reasons for doing things, and so if you turn to him, he will hear your prayers. But if you ignore him, he will reject you for ever.

But we are happy, because everyone has voluntarily given you these things. You know what is in everyone's heart, and you are pleased when people are honest.

But he knows what I am doing, and when he tests me, I will be pure as gold.

Soon after sunset they murder the poor and the needy, and at night they steal.

The LORD tests honest people, but despises those who are cruel and love violence.

Your laws are fair, and I have given my word to respect them all.

You have looked deep into my heart, LORD, and you know-all about me.

Look deep into my heart, God, and find out everything I am thinking.

Test my thoughts and find out what I am like.

I told myself, “I'll be careful not to sin by what I say, and I'll muzzle my mouth when evil people are near.”

Our God, you tested us, just as silver is tested.

I have not betrayed a friend or had pity on an enemy who attacks for no reason.

Keep what you know to yourself, and you will be safe; talk too much, and you are done for.

But you know, LORD, how faithful I've always been, even in my thoughts. So drag my enemies away and butcher them like sheep!

I will rescue a few people from Israel and Judah. I will forgive them so completely that their sin and guilt will disappear, never to be found.

Their anger is a fire that smoulders all night, then flares up at dawn.

Doomed! You're doomed! At night you lie in bed, making evil plans. And when morning comes, you do what you've planned because you have the power.

Then I will purify them and put them to the test, just as gold and silver are purified and tested. They will pray in my name, and I will answer them. I will say, “You are my people,” and they will reply, “You, LORD, are our God!”

On the day the Lord comes, he will be like a furnace that purifies silver or like strong soap in a washbasin. No one will be able to stand up to him.

When Barnabas got there and saw what God had been kind enough to do for them, he was very glad. So he begged them to remain faithful to the Lord with all their hearts.

During the night, Paul had a vision of someone from Macedonia who was standing there and begging him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us!”

I don't know of anything against me, but that doesn't prove that I am right. The Lord is my judge.

We can be proud of our clear conscience. We have always lived honestly and sincerely, especially when we were with you. And we were guided by God's wonderful kindness instead of by the wisdom of this world.

All of us do many wrong things. But if you can control your tongue, you are mature and able to control your whole body.

Your faith will be like gold that has been tested in a fire. And these trials will prove that your faith is worth much more than gold that can be destroyed. They will show that you will be given praise and honour and glory when Jesus Christ returns.

You can see for yourself that the LORD gave me the chance to catch you in the cave today. Some of my men wanted to kill you, but I wouldn't let them do it. I told them, “I will not harm the LORD's chosen king!”

I'll let the LORD decide which one of us has done right. I pray that the LORD will punish you for what you're doing to me, but I won't do anything to you.

But I pray that the LORD will keep me from harming his chosen king. Let's grab his spear and his water jar and get out of here!”

The LORD put you in my power today, but you are his chosen king and I wouldn't harm you. The LORD rewards people who are faithful and live right.
