You made a solemn promise to David, when you said, “I, the LORD, promise that someone in your family will always be king.

The LORD has made a promise that will never be broken: “You will be a priest for ever, just like Melchizedek.”

But David was a prophet, and he knew that God had made a promise he would not break. He had told David that someone from his own family would some day be king.

You promised that someone from his family would always be king of Israel, if they do their best to obey you, just as he did.

God cannot tell lies! And so his promises and vows are two things that can never be changed. We have run to God for safety. Now his promises should greatly encourage us to take hold of the hope that is right in front of us.

He will be great and will be called the Son of God Most High. The Lord God will make him king, as his ancestor David was.

LORD God of Israel, you promised my father that someone from his family would always be king of Israel, if they do their best to obey you, just as he did.

I will make sure that one of your descendants will always be king.

I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I'll see that he is corrected, just as children are corrected by their parents.

Besides, the eternal God of Israel isn't a human being. He doesn't tell lies or change his mind.”

God is no mere human! He doesn't tell lies or change his mind. God always keeps his promises.

and prayed, “I praise you, LORD God of Israel. You have made my son Solomon king and have let me live to see it.”

and I will keep my solemn promise to him that someone from your family will always be king of Israel.

Our LORD, let the heavens now praise your miracles, and let all your angels praise your faithfulness.
