I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and here in Egypt I haven't done anything to deserve being thrown in jail.

Ahithophel said to Absalom: Let me choose twelve thousand men and attack David tonight,

Their words bite deep like the poisonous fangs of a snake.

I hear the crowds whisper, “Everyone is afraid!” They are plotting and scheming to murder me.

Silence those proud liars! Make them stop boasting and insulting your people.

You love to say cruel things, and your words are a trap.

Truth will last for ever; lies are soon found out.

Good people think before they answer, but the wicked speak evil without ever thinking.

Those who are too proud or tell lies or murder,

The LORD replied: Lies come from the mouths of my people, like arrows from a bow. With each dishonest deed their power increases, and not one of them will admit that I am God.

They wear themselves out, always looking for a new way to cheat their friends.

Some men agreed to tell lies about Stephen, and they said, “This man keeps on saying terrible things about this holy temple and the Law of Moses.
