Saying foolish things is like setting a trap to destroy yourself.

Don't say, “I didn't know it!” God can read your mind. He watches each of us and knows our thoughts. And God will pay us back for what we do.

If you dig a pit, you will fall in; if you start a stone rolling, it will roll back on you.

Here is what I discovered: a bad woman is worse than death. She is a trap, reaching out with body and soul to catch you. But if you obey God, you can escape. If you don't obey, you are done for.

Your own sins will punish you, because it was a bitter mistake for you to reject me without fear of punishment. I, the LORD All-Powerful, have spoken.

You have tied my sins around my neck, and they weigh so heavily that my strength is gone. You have put me in the power of enemies too strong for me.

The day is coming when I, the LORD, will judge the nations. And, Edom, you will pay in full for what you have done.

But if you don't keep your promise, you will sin against the LORD and be punished.

Have respect for marriage. Always be faithful to your partner, because God will punish anyone who is immoral or unfaithful in marriage.

God also punished the people of Shechem for helping Abimelech. Everything happened just as Jotham's curse said it would.
