David got up off the floor; he took a bath, combed his hair, and dressed. He went into the LORD's tent and worshipped, then he went back home. David asked for something to eat, and when his servants brought him some food, he ate it.

Each governor before me had been a burden to the people by making them pay for his food and wine and by demanding forty silver coins a day. Even their officials had been a burden to the people. But I respected God, and I didn't think it was right to be so hard on them.

Many years ago, a man named Job lived in the land of Uz. He was a truly good person, who respected God and refused to do evil.

God told us, “Wisdom means that you respect me, the Lord, and turn from sin.”

“Don't be afraid!” Moses replied. “God has come only to test you, so that by obeying him you won't sin.”

Only a stupid fool is never cautious— so be extra careful and stay out of trouble.

and a life-giving fountain that keeps you safe from deadly traps.

If we truly love God, our sins will be forgiven; if we show him respect, we will keep away from sin.

Give up trying so hard to get rich.

There is more hope for a fool than for someone who says, “I'm really clever!”

But if you answer any fools, show how foolish they are, so they won't feel clever.

The rich think highly of themselves, but anyone poor and sensible sees right through them.

Only fools would trust what they alone think, but if you live by wisdom, you will do all right.

If you respect the LORD, you will hate evil. I hate pride and conceit and deceitful lies.

Everything you were taught can be put into a few words: Respect and obey God! This is what life is all about.

You think you are clever and wise.

My friends, I don't want you Gentiles to be too proud of yourselves. So I will explain the mystery of what has happened to the people of Israel. Some of them have become stubborn, and they will stay like that until the complete number of you Gentiles has come in.

Be friendly with everyone. Don't be proud and feel that you are cleverer than others. Make friends with ordinary people.
