Servants are fortunate if their master comes and finds them doing their job.

But don't act like them. If you want to be great, you must be the servant of all the others.

Servants are fortunate if their master finds them awake and ready when he comes! I promise you that he will get ready and make his servants sit down so that he can serve them.

The Lord answered: Who are faithful and wise servants? Who are the ones the master will put in charge of giving the other servants their food supplies at the proper time?

“That's fine, my good servant!” the king said. “Since you have shown that you can be trusted with a small amount, you will be given ten cities to rule.”

If you serve me, you must go with me. My servants will be with me wherever I am. If you serve me, my Father will honour you.

After saying this, the angel left. Cornelius called in two of his servants and one of his soldiers who worshipped God.

The one who plants is just as important as the one who waters. And each one will be paid for what they do.

Don't you know that people who work in the temple make their living from what is brought to the temple? Don't you know that a person who serves at the altar is given part of what is offered?

Do soldiers pay their own salaries? Don't people who raise grapes eat some of what they grow? Don't shepherds get milk from their own goats?

Slaves, you must always obey your earthly masters. Try to please them at all times, and not just when you think they are watching. Honour the Lord and serve your masters with your whole heart.

And farmers who work hard are the first to eat what grows in their field.

Servants, you must obey your masters and always show respect to them. Do this, not only to those who are kind and thoughtful, but also to those who are cruel.

After all, God chose you to suffer as you follow in the footsteps of Christ, who set an example by suffering for you.

I am the LORD, the God of Israel. I promised to let your family serve me as priests for ever, but now I tell you that I cannot do this any longer! I honour anyone who honours me, but I put a curse on anyone who hates me.
