As you remember, we had been ill-treated and insulted at Philippi. But God gave us the courage to tell you the good news about him, even though many people caused us trouble.

I have fought well. I have finished the race, and I have been faithful.

None of you have yet been hurt in your battle against sin.

I have told you this, so that you might have peace in your hearts because of me. While you are in the world, you will have to suffer. But cheer up! I have defeated the world.

Our people defeated Satan because of the blood of the Lamb and the message of God. They were willing to give up their lives.

Fight a good fight for the faith and claim eternal life. God offered it to you when you clearly told about your faith, while so many people listened.

That's why I work so hard and use the mighty power he gives me.

The Roman guards and all the others know that I am here in jail because I serve Christ.

I want you to know what a struggle I am going through for you, for God's people at Laodicea, and for all those followers who have never met me.

Such a large crowd of witnesses is all around us! So we must get rid of everything that slows us down, especially the sin that just won't let go. And we must be determined to run the race that is ahead of us.
